Beef Stroganoff & Peach and Plum Platz

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

I am super tired from a busy weekend but I have been meaning to post both of these recipes for weeks. The first recipe is for Beef Stroganoff and the second is for a Peach and Plum Platz. They are both from Anna Olson and as always they turned out great. If you have not purchased her cookbooks I will again tell you to go pick them up.

These recipes would be good to serve this time of year as the weather is getting cooler. The Beef Stroganoff is also a huge hit with guys, so if you need to cook a meal for a man in your life give this a try! My Dad actually wanted to have leftovers the next day so that he could eat the Stroganoff two days in a row.

The Platz is a German cake and could also be served with coffee in the morning as well as for dessert. It is not too sweet and has a slight sourness from the sour cream; an added bonus is that it puts a wonderful aroma throughout your house as it bakes because of the cinammon. You do not have to use peaches and plums in the cake; apples would also work (just make sure you peel them) or even apricots would be delicious. If you have been craving a Fall meal then give this menu a try!

Mom’s Stew with Fluffy Dumplings

My favorite family meal that my Mom makes is her stew with dumplings. The recipe is fairly simple but sometimes the simplest things are the best. Very few ingredients are needed to make this stew and it requires only a little work. This is the perfect meal to make on a cold night, since it is stick to your ribs kind of food. The stew itself is hearty and the dumplings are fluffy and biscuit like. If you are looking for a new family favorite I would highly recommend you try this recipe! (more…)

This is the first time that I have made Nuts and Bolts. I remember as a child going over to one of my best friend’s houses and watching her mother make this every Christmas. I always loved the smell that would waft out of the oven but we were never allowed to have any since it was for Christmas time. I decided that I would give it a shot this year and make one of my favorite salty snacks. I got this recipe from my cousin and it is just the right balance of spices. I am going to package this mixture up and give it away as hosts gifts but of course I will keep a little for myself to snack on. (more…)
